French budget crisis

After last year's shortfall of €6·31 billion in the health budget, France's health-care system is in financial crisis. Budget Minister Eric Woerth predicted the deficit to reach €10 billion this year, rising to €15 billion in 2010. Cost-saving options being considered by the government include increasing patients' charges for hospital stays by €4 per day and cutting reimbursement for drugs such as aspirin by 20%.
